Navigating large puzzles

When a puzzle has a large number of pieces (say 300), your monitor becomes too small to show them all at a reasonable size. JPP has a couple of features that help you deal with this, so you can still enjoy those large and challenging puzzles.

Zooming
By zooming in and out on the desktop, you enlarge or reduce the size of the pieces. This allows you to switch from a close-up view of a detailed piece to a birds-eye overview of the puzzle area.

Use the Zoom In button on the toolbar or press the + key to zoom in. This makes the puzzle pieces appear larger.


Use the Zoom Out button on the toolbar or press the - key to zoom out. This makes the puzzle pieces appear smaller.


Use the Fit to Puzzle button on the toolbar or press the Home key to size the view in such a way that the assembly area in the center of the desktop is as large as possible. This is often useful in split screen mode.

Use the Fit to Pieces button on the toolbar or press the End key to size the view in such a way that all the pieces are visible. This can result in the pieces becoming too small to see clearly. In that case, we recommend using split screen mode.

Split screen mode
When there are too many pieces to fit on the screen, you can use split screen mode. This splits the main window into two parts separated by a 'splitter bar'. Each part is an independent view on the desktop. A good way of using it is to use "Fit to Puzzle" on the left view, and "Fit to Pieces" on the right one. 

The best thing about split screen mode is that you can drag & drop pieces from one view to the other. Just move a piece from one view across the splitter bar, and drop it in the other view.



Use the No Split button on the toolbar or Split Screen|No split on the View menu to have a single main window with no splitter bar.
In the toolbar navigator the view is marked in yellow.



Use the Split Horizontally button on the toolbar or Split Screen|Split Horizontally on the View menu to split the main window into an upper and lower part. When active, a second set of zoom buttons is visible on the toolbar. This mode is most useful for landscape- or panorama-shaped puzzles. 
In the toolbar navigator the upper view is marked in yellow, and the lower view in red.
Drag the splitter bar up or down to resize the two views.



Use the Split Vertically button on the toolbar or Split Screen|Split Vertically on the View menu to split the main window into a left and right part. When active, a second set of zoom buttons is visible on the toolbar. This mode is most useful for portrait-shaped puzzles.
In the toolbar navigator the left view is marked in yellow, and the right view in red.
Drag the splitter bar left or right to resize the two views.
